VIETNAM TOURISM INDUSTRY

Vietnam has long been a traveller’s delight. Whether you are a solo traveller backpacking across Asia or part of a group of friends raring to explore a new country, a couple looking to get away from the mundane to spend quality time with each other or a young family wanting a budget-friendly option for four, Vietnam is the definitive answer. The country with nearly 100 million, is teeming with options that cater to every type of traveller.

Vietnam is a country that is rich in culture, nature, and urban experiences. It also holds much historical significance due to the Vietnam War and, earlier, colonisation by the French. As a result, tourists get to taste a unique blend of the past and the present. While Covid-19 posed a unique challenge, Vietnam is fast adopting policies to attract foreign tourists.

Contributing over six percent to Vietnam’s GDP every year, tourism is one of the most important driving forces for Vietnam’s economic development. Taking note of this, in 2011, the government released the “Strategy on Vietnam’s tourism development until 2020, vision to 2030” to provide guidelines for cities and provinces to promote their tourism industry. As part of the strategy, Vietnam aims to attract 17 to 20 million international visitors in 2020. As of November 2019, Vietnam welcomed 16.3 million international travelers, a 15.4 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase.
