Covid-19 has been an eye-opener and yardstick to see how dynamic, flexible and modern your education system is. Over 1.6 billion learners globally are affected by the Covid-19 disruption. However, 86% of children at the primary level have been effectively out of school in poor countries, compared to just 20% in developed countries. Almost 24 million children are at risk of not returning to school next year. Over 18.6 million pre-primary teachers in 48 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and 4.4 million (85 percent of who are women) in 24 countries in the Asia-Pacific region are under more pressure than ever to handle unprecedented challenges, stress and disruptions resulting from the pandemic –reflecting their poor preparedness to handle such disruptions.
